A fifth Spartan has been invite to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis — and it’s a bit of a surprise.
The Lansing State Journal reported Edwin Baker has been invited to participate in the largest event leading up to the NFL Draft, per his financial adviser.
About 10 days ago, the preliminary list of players invited was released and it featured four former Michigan State players: Kirk Cousins, B.J. Cunningham, Keshawn Martin and Trenton Robinson.
A second list for the combine, which takes place from Feb. 22-28, will include underclassmen (such as Baker) and seniors who earned an invite based on performances in all-star games.
Of all remaining Spartans, Baker did not seem the most likely to receive an invite — and in fact, seemed to have an outside chance.
Jerel Worthy is all but confirmed to be there. Brian Linthicum is a Spartan one would expect to be invited.
But for Baker, this will be a really good chance to make some kind of impression on NFL scouts.
